Who Can Use IMODIUM®
Almost everyone has diarrhoea at some point in their lives.
Adults
IMODIUM® is suitable for adults and children over 12 years of age. It is also suitable for adults (18+) for medically diagnosed IBS diarrhoea
Children
IMODIUM® is suitable for children over 12 years of age only.
It is important that children do not become dehydrated. Contact your GP or pharmacist if your child has symptoms of dehydration. They may recommend an oral rehydration solution.
Here’s some advice for treating your child’s diarrhoea:
Fizzy drinks and fruit juice can make diarrhoea worse in children and so should be avoided.
Children should take frequent sips of water to stay hydrated.
If your child is not dehydrated, offer them their normal diet.
If your child’s diarrhoea persists, or you’re otherwise concerned about their health, you should consult your doctor.
Diarrhoea & Pregnancy
As with many medicines, IMODIUM® should not be used when you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.
If you’re pregnant or caring for a newborn, diarrhoea can be the last thing you need. But, while you can’t use IMODIUM®, you can try to look after yourself by staying hydrated and resting. If you are concerned, or have signs of dehydration you should contact your GP or pharmacist.
Your baby is much more sensitive than you, so if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you need to be careful about what you put in your body. When choosing an over-the-counter medicine, make sure that you speak to your pharmacist and read the label to see whether the medicine is suitable for use in pregnancy.
IBS sufferers
If you’ve been diagnosed with IBS by a doctor, you can use IMODIUM® IBS Relief, IMODIUM® Instants or IMODIUM® Originals to treat your diarrhoea if you are over 18 years.
